Tara Johanneson
Board Member

Tara has served on the Tea Area School Board for nine years and brings a unique perspective as both an educator and parent of Tea Area students. She holds degrees in Business Administration, Business Education, and Technology for Education and Training, and has dedicated much of her career to supporting student learning and growth. After teaching computer science and serving in educational technology leadership roles for 14 years, she now works in Information Technology at the University of Sioux Falls.

A Tea resident for 24 years, Tara and her husband, Jason, have raised their three children in the Tea Area School District. Their daughter, Taylor, graduated from Tea Area High School in 2024, while sons Jaxon and Jadon are actively involved in academics, activities, athletics, and career and technical education programs.

Tara first became interested in school board service while covering meetings as a reporter for the Tea Weekly. Recognizing the value of diverse perspectives in district leadership, she felt her background in education could contribute to thoughtful decision-making and long-term planning for the district.

She enjoys celebrating the accomplishments of students and staff, participating in continuous improvement efforts, and serving as the district's legislative representative. Outside of her board service, Tara enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She and her family have traveled extensively and have welcomed seven foreign exchange students into their home.
